Regular Maintenance
Keep HMK equipment in top condition with simple, periodic care. HMK stairlifts do not require oiling/greasing. Focus on cleaning, battery care, safety checks and an annual professional service.
Do
- Wipe seat, arms, backrest and footrest with a slightly damp cloth; dry afterwards.
- Vacuum along the rail path and around charging contacts; keep debris away.
- Always park on a charge point when not in use; check the charge indicator.
- Test seatbelt and safety edges monthly; confirm the seat locks to travel position.
- Arrange annual service by an HMK-trained technician.
Don’t
- Don’t apply oils, greases or spray lubricants on rail or carriage.
- Don’t wash with running water or harsh chemicals/solvents.
- Don’t cover vents or charge contacts; don’t bypass safety devices.
- Don’t disassemble covers; electrical work is for qualified service only.
Key maintenance routines
1) Cleaning & Care
- Soft, damp cloth for chair surfaces; dry with microfiber.
- Vacuum the rail/track and landing areas; keep clear of toys, rugs and shoes.
- Clean charge contacts gently; ensure docking is unobstructed.
2) Battery Care
- Park on charge when idle; avoid deep discharge.
- If unused > 2 weeks, leave powered and on charge.
- Typical service life varies by use/environment; ask service to test during annual visit.
3) Safety Checks
- Seatbelt, key switch/child-lock, emergency stop: test monthly.
- Safety edges: gently press to confirm the lift halts and restarts normally.
- Swivel lock: seat must lock before travel; footrest must be clear.
4) Annual Service
- Schedule a full inspection and adjustments once per year.
- Request a health report (batteries, sensors, drive system, charge points).
- Use only HMK parts and approved accessories.
5) Long Idle / Storage
- For extended indoor straight usage pause: switch OFF at carriage circuit breaker and unplug the charger.
- When returning to use: turn the carriage breaker ON, reconnect charger, and wait until LEDs show a full charge (green) before riding.
- Move the lift slowly at first to verify normal operation.
6) Outdoor Units
- Use the protective cover when not in use; keep rail free of water, mud and leaves.
- Observe operating temperature limits; contact service in extreme weather.
- Inspect stainless/galvanized hardware for corrosion and report early.
Good to know: HMK stairlifts are engineered for low maintenance and do not require lubrication. Keeping things clean and charged covers most needs.
How to test safety sensors (monthly)
While seated and belted on a clear, low step, gently press a safety edge.
The lift should stop smoothly and move again once released. Repeat for footrest edge.
Best battery habits
Always park on charge. Avoid leaving the lift uncharged. After any power cut, confirm the charge light is on.
Cleaning the rail & charge points
Power off. Wipe accessible areas with a dry cloth; vacuum dust along the rail path.
Do not introduce liquids or sprays near electrical parts.
When should batteries be replaced?
If the lift slows, stops between charges, or shows repeated low-battery warnings, book a check.
A technician will test capacity and replace if needed.
Optional mobile app (paid add-on)
On select models, HMK can provide an app to show live status and send notifications (switch ON/OFF, sleep mode, lift moving, lack of charge),
diagnostics (safety edge activation, minor/major error codes, service required, battery usage) and an owner portal with optional SMS updates.
Ask our team for availability and pricing.
Who performs maintenance in Russia?
Maintenance and warranty services are carried out by HMK’s authorized representative in Russia.
Direct service by HMK applies only if a local HMK office is established in the future.
